[this is good]
I commented on this great article on our other site. I enjoyed reading it again. Thank you.
Thanks Sandie. Set up the NV ex-pats group yet?
nice. some of the things you said were reasonable, such as the fact that he had a load of gumption and nerve to trek across the country looking for answers to his internal questions and to cut loose from his reliance on society, as he says "is it really good to rely on anything besides nature?" (or something to that effect). However in the bit about him living his whole life to the beat of his own drum, you need to understand that he felt as though he'd lived 22 years in a cage...restrained by society, and that's what led him to travel for only a few short years of "living to the beat of his own drum." Also he was incredibly naive about simply walking into the Alaskan wilderness and surviving. he hadn't prepared for it at all, and his lack of knowledge about the plant life in the area is what led to his demise...
The most confusing thing you said was quoting something he said, which was actually a quote of Thoreau...and i feel like the philosophy he was dealing with was extremely basic...perhaps something you wouldn't have to go to Alaska to uncover...? But i really liked the movie too, and you wrote a load on it so i guess you got pretty into it. congrats
